Book Launch with Sam Barber ‘The Story of Sam Barber: Reflections of my Time’

It is in simple sunlit vistas that Sam Barber creates places of grandeur, vivid yet sublime views of nature. Please join the Osterville Village Library in welcoming artist and author Sam Barber with his exciting book launch and author talk ‘Reflections of my Time’. Born in Europe, Barber was schooled in New York, retaining an old world aesthetic eye while determined and open to new challenges. He attended the National Academy of Design and the prestigious Art Students League in the late 1960’s. He went on to study with Henry Hensche at the distinguished Cape School of Art. The school was organized by the American Impressionists, whose foundations complemented Barber’s style. His work conveys a force through color, yet is truly romantic in subject matter. Barber declares, “I go where the color is” and his saturated pigments are forced to their maximum effect. Structure is remarkably built from color in his paintings. Comparable to Monet, Barber paints in broken, pure colors; this robust manner allows the brushstroke to stand alone. His lasting attraction to cape Cod is in the special play of light that changes constantly. It is where the fleeting light catches glimpses of rippling water, verdant meadows and bursting flowers that Barber sets up his easel, oils and canvas. Sam Barber’s work embodies the natural beauty of Cape Cod and New England. His paintings are in 50 major museums and corporate collections and have won numerous regional and national awards.
