ire Plague: The Story of 19th Century America’s Pandemic of City-Destroying Fires From New York to San Francisco, from Milwaukee to New Orleans, large destructive fires obliterated lives, livelihoods, homes, and neighborhoods of virtually every city in 19th century America. And, while the destruction of Chicago’s 1871 conflagration was in a class by itself, it was far from being unique – as Boston’s massive fire just a year later compellingly showed. Bruce Twickler, filmmaker and author, will survey this apocalyptic threat to the country’s growth and prosperity, discuss the plight of cities from coast-to-coast, and tell the story of the crusade to stop these fire-storms. Bruce Twickler discusses this and more in what’s sure to be an incredibly thrilling program. Saturday August 2nd at 1pm in the Main Meeting Room at the Osterville Village Library.
