Olivia Padula, Curator of Collections of the Sandwich Glass Museum, will be sharing the story of the Boston and Sandwich Glass Company and how the glass industry shaped, and continues to shape, the local community. Founded in 1825 by Deming Jarves, the Boston and Sandwich Glass Company industrialized the oldest town on Cape Cod and brought a rich artistic tradition to the area that still thrives today. During its over 60 years of operation the factory manufactured everything from mass-produced pressed glass to the finest cut, engraved, and painted glass. This talk will discuss the artistic and the technical processes of making glass, and the history of glass making in the town of Sandwich, MA. This program will take place on Saturday April 12th at 1pm in the Main Meeting Room at the Osterville Village Library.
